this release journeys to mid-80s argentina and the highly sought after 2nd solo album of carlos cutaia. inspired by the new electronic sounds emanating from europe, this multi instrumentalist offers more than a pastiche, embedding his own melancholy in a unique and classic nueva wave-album. classically trained, carlos cutaia started as a composer for dance and theatre, before spending much of the 1970s as a member of a number heavy rock, prog rock and rock-fusion bands of some note, before finally going solo with the city of distant tones album in 1983. however, by the time of his 2nd solo album in 1985, as his country finally left behind a long period of military control and enjoyed greater freedoms, carlos was fully immersed in the new electronic pop sounds imported with hungry ears from europe. teaming up with fellow composer, keyboardist and producer, daniel melero and alejandro oucinde, the futurism of kraftwerk and gary numan s tubeway army was embraced, but also adapted to fit their native land, just as it was understand a new modernity. starting with the swagger of visiones incomunicadas, the template is set. sharp drum machines, semi-nonchalant, half spoken vocals set the scene, while chopped guitar and smart synth lines fit the over riding feeling of an intelligent nonchalance. things however, do go beyond the straightjacket of euro-pop as heard on the anthemic programacion and avant twist of the first of two piano-ambient pieces aproximacion dos and its companion piece uno found on the b side). eric satie and minimalism are clearly not far away. however, it is side b opener sensacion melancolica that captures the sound to perfection. a balearic masterpiece, capturing in it s title the over-riding atmospheric of a unexplained sadness, a loss. operativo and the poem humanos de america bring things to an end of a feeling melancolica.

dele sosimis album you no fit touch am was released in 2015 to much universal acclaim. a perfect document of the lessons the keyboard master and vocalist learned in fela kuti s ranks during the 70s and 80s, but brought firmly up-to-date and with contemporary social comment as vital to the afrobeat genre as any rhythm or instrument. in 2016, to take that forward thinking even further, wah wah 45s commissioned four huge remixes from a quartet of the uk s most interesting new production names. that was just part one of the story though this year the label can reveal the final four remixes to be taken from this hugely popular and influential project.

it�s hard to get a handle on nigerian musicians nash dodoo, charlie cuul and jonas caulley. in 1980 they released an album of face-melting gospel boogie as the bml chapels. and in the same year, calling themselves the beta yama group, they put out free love, a belated love letter to san francisco�s summer of love and an album altogether focused on more worldly concerns. free love is a small slice of haight-ashbury transported to the polygram studios in lagos. �te revoir� is mamas and papas jamming with sergeant pepper�s beatles. �free love� offers a respectful nod towards je t�aime-era serge gainsbourg. sure, �revolution� gets hard and funky and �rain� flirts briefly with a calypso reggae sound, but the majority of the album is cheesecloth and flowers in your hair. insanely rare � and worth buying for the freaky cover art alone � free love is a funky, reverb heavy call for love, peace and sweet, sweet loving. what more could you want from an album?

a bona-fide nigerian prince and probably the only musician to have ever played with fela kuti, miles davis and bob marley, eji oyewole combined african highlife with western jazz to create a hybrid so that was as smooth as it was funky. his first album, charity begins at home was an angry tirade against corruption in nigeria. me & you is his �relationship� album, a brighter and happier set of songs that sees eji all loved up, presumably with the mysterious �cameleon� featured on the cover. eji�s flute is no longer a strident voice raised in anger. instead, on �me & you� and �i�m a dancer� it is a playful line of seduction. on the wonky and woozy �eniafelamo� his sax is a post-coital salutation. even the one political track, �long live nigeria�, is a loved up call for peace, progress and trust. chilled, assured and dexterious, me & you is a sophisticated showcase of eji oyewole�s chops. �this is the beginning of an atomic musical evolution,� he declares on the cover. �brothers and sisters, stay cool.�

kiki gyan�s star didn�t burn long, but it burned bright. drafted into the afro funk super group, osibisa, at 15, he was millionaire by 18 and regarded as one of the best keyboardists in the world by 21. �life was good, man,� he told journalist kweku sakyi-addo. �too good!�. in 1983 he dived head first into the new york party scene. he took a lot of drugs, spent a lot of time in clubs and got together a team of crack local musicians to record feelin� alright, his third and final solo album. all the kiki gyan trademark elements are present and correct. the album is unique a blend of highlife music with electronic funk and disco. �rosemary� follows the formula most closely and was a hit across nigeria and ghana. but on �give it to me�, �love to love you� and the title track, you�ll hear a slicker, boogie-influenced sound that has made feelin� alright one of his most sought-after albums. kiki gyan would never hit such heights again. his addictions eventually took hold and he died aged 47, destitute and alone. feelin� alright remains one of the brightest stars in his extraordinary constellation.

four313 is a detroit group of deejays, musicians and producers from the 1st wave of the detroit techno dance movement. blake, eddie, santonio & thomas have joined forces as the unit four313, a group name with meaning and purpose, and that is to preserve detroits true history in dance music and support the dj culture through vinyl releases. the debut album of four313 will be released with the launch of their new record label called ther label. four313 will collectively release special limited edition vinyl of brand new recordings starting at the beginnning of 2017.

monument builders is the new album from loscil, the ambient/electronic project of prolific composer scott morgan. it was primarily created on sample-based instruments in morgan �,s century-old vancouver home. like that aged space, this music is also rough-hewn, with rickety samples of boiling kettles and resonant moving air. recordings from a vintage micro-cassette recorder contribute distortion, rattles and textures that serve as both percussion and abstract aural color.

n�toko ist ein experimenteller hip hop-künstler und produzent aus slowenien. seine ersten sporen verdiente er sich als frontmann eines lokalen hip hop-kollektivs namens moveknowledgement. n�toko wurde schnell durch sein technisches können und seine schnelligkeit als rapper bekannt und gewann dadurch sogar zwei nationale freestyle-wettbewerbe hintereinander. neben drei slowenisch-sprachigen alben veröffentlichte er mehrere eps in englischer sprache, von denen zwei auch in japan auf dem markt kamen. diese beiden scheiben haben mittlerweile kultstatus bei underground hip hop-fans und liebhabern alternativer musik erreicht. parallel dazu spielte n�toko ausgiebige touren in europa und den usa, wo er gast auf diversen festivals war (u.a. reeperbahn festival, glastonbury, exit, inmusic, best buy theatre nyc). derzeit engagiert n�toko sich auch politisch in slowenien und hat sich zum viel-gelesenen kolumnist und autor gemausert. auf unique erscheint sein neues album �emirates�, und es vereint kritische texte, straighte beats und düstere, elektronische sounds.

following on from casino times debut album familiar circles, wolf music enlist al zanders & moomin to remix their favourite cuts from the album. al zanders delivers a classy deep house version of carlotta while moomin throws a curveball with a drum n bass remix reminiscent of a classic ltj bukem track from the mid 90 s.

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent... house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 1 you ll find a dark bassline driven house jam from art of tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from nyc s dj spinna, a blaze homage with that classic new jersey sound from sean mccabe, and a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta brescia from wonder kid corrado bucci. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style!
